Indo-Russian Chamber of Commerce & Industries (IRCCI), Chennai aims at building strong business and cultural bond between India and Russia. Many business tie-ups and cultural events have been the hallmark of the Chamber. Need was felt by the executive body to energise the tie-up with active interaction in more fields such as Education& Training, Healthcare and Research & Development. This could further enhancethe economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
IRCCI considers BrahMos as one of the very successful model which was an initiative as a Joint Venture between Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and joint stock company “Military Industrial Consortium” “NPO Mashinostroyenia” (earlier known as Federal State Unitary Enterprise NPOM of Russia). The JVcompany was established in India through an Inter- Governmental Agreement signed on February 12, 1998, between The Republic of India and the Russian Federation. The Joint Venture Company has become a role model by integrating public-private industries from India and Russia. The success of BrahMos is attributed to the leadership of the Distinguished Scientist Dr.A. Sivathanu Pillai who is regarded as Father of BrahMos. He has been inducted in the Executive Body of IRCCI as one of the Vice-Presidents during the recent reconstitution of IRCCI.
